Christian Citizenship Seminar 2021: Economic Justice

Note: this seminar is sponsored by the Church of the Brethren’s Youth and Young Adult Ministry Office and the Office of Peacebuilding and Policy

Christian Citizenship Seminars provide high school-aged students an opportunity to come together and explore the connections between their faith and a particular political issue—and how to act on an issue from a grounding in that faith.

This year, participants will join in discussing economic justice.

From the program’s brochure:

We live in a time of incredible economic disruption and inequality. The distance between those with many resources and those with few has continued to expand. The global pandemic has shown, again, how our health, economic, and political systems are unequal/unjust. This reality is not reflective of God’s vision for our world.

We sense Jesus’s urgent call for economic justic and reconciliation. The Church of the Brethren values simple living, which includes seeking economic justice and caring for those who are in need. During CCS 2021, participants will gain a greater understanding of economic systems and of Brethren understandings of wealth/wealth-sharing; participants will then advocate for economically just policies with their US senators and representatives.

CCS 2021 is open to high school-aged youth, as well as students in their freshman year of college. Adult advisors are also eligible to attend the seminar.

The program will run from April 24th through April 28th, from 4:00pm to 6:00pm Pacific time, each day.
